The most underrated upgrade on the Audeze Maxwell 2 isn’t the drivers or the battery life — it’s the earpad attachment system. The switch from the original Maxwell’s snap-on mechanism to a magnetic mount was pitched as “easier cleaning,” but what I see is a signal: swapping earpads no longer means wrestling with plastic rings. And Dekoni Audio was quick to capitalize.

Dekoni has released two replacement pad options for the Maxwell 2 — Midnight and Sheepskin — both priced at US$79.99 (approx. HK$625). Both feature Dekoni’s signature high-density, slow-rebound memory foam, purpose-built to reduce clamping fatigue during long sessions. But what’s genuinely interesting is how different the material choices are.
The Midnight variant takes the accessible route: 100% high-quality PU leather, vegan-friendly, and crucially, bumps ear depth from the stock 20mm to 30mm. That extra 10mm is the difference between “fits” and “doesn’t fit” for larger ears. The flat coupling surface improves the acoustic seal, and Dekoni claims a noticeable bass enhancement comes with it.

The Sheepskin is a different story. Genuine sheepskin leather delivers a superior acoustic seal — better passive isolation, tighter bass. If your Maxwell 2 sees more music than gaming, that “punchy, unfiltered bass” character will hit closer to home. Sure, real leather also brings better breathability and durability — but at the same price as the Midnight, the value proposition of the PU option suddenly looks less compelling.
Both pads use the magnetic mount — literally a one-second swap. Dekoni also backs them with a 2-year warranty, which is a solid commitment for what’s essentially a wear item.

The Maxwell 2’s magnetic system drops the barrier to pad swapping to near zero — what used to be a “mod” is now an “accessory.” Dekoni entering the Maxwell 2 aftermarket with two premium material options signals ecosystem confidence — not just a race to market, but a commitment to quality. Is US$79.99 steep? Against stock replacements, sure, there’s a premium — but when pad swaps go from a half-hour project to a 30-second routine, the psychological price barrier shifts with it.
